Visit Slappy’s Holiday Circus for Unique Family Fun

Looking for something different to do with your family this Christmas? Visit Slappy’s Holiday Circus, playing this Saturday at the Dallas Galleria. Headlined by DFW’s most famous clowns, Dick and Tiffany Riley, the event is structured like a traditional European circus. In addition to clowns, the circus features magic acts, puppets, contortionists, jugglers, and more. Although the event runs throughout the season, you can catch the last two performances this Saturday the 20th at 1 and 3. The best part? The event is free for the whole family!

While You’re at the Galleria…

We know the event is a bit of a drive from North Richland Hills, so why not make a day of it? The Galleria is a winter wonderland this time of year, and it’s a great time to finish up that Christmas shopping. If the kids haven’t seen Santa yet, it’s not too late. Saint Nick will be visiting children and taking last minute requests from 9 am to 9 pm. (Santa puts in long hours this time of year.)

After your kids visit the jolly old elf, you can indulge your inner child with Dallas Cityscape. The entire city of Dallas has been meticulously built from toy blocks. The event costs $5 a person, and the proceeds go to support Education Open Doors, a program that trains middle school teachers to educate their students about the importance of a college education. This event runs through January 4th, so you can catch the mini city even if you don’t make it out to the Galleria this weekend.

If you celebrate Chanukah, you won’t be left out of the fun! You can catch the free menorah lighting at 5 pm. The event kicks off on December 16 with a ceremony, refreshments, and treats for the kids. A new candle will be lit nightly through December 24th.

While you’re there, you’ll probably want to see the nightly lighting of the world’s largest indoor Christmas tree. Each night, the event is accompanied with an appearance by Missile Toes, Galleria Dallas’ own ice skating Santa. No bowl of jelly here – this Santa performs backflips on his pyrotechnic skates. If you need yet another reason to make the Galleria your destination this Saturday, there will also be an appearance by Caydee Denney and John Coughlin, the 2012 USA National Champions in Figure Skating.

With so much to do, you may still have to go back to get those last minute gifts.
